About the Role
The Senior Tax Manager will play a pivotal leadership role within the firm’s tax division, managing complex advisory engagements, overseeing compliance, and leading a team of tax professionals.
This position offers an opportunity to join the firm’s Senior Leadership Team, collaborating directly with partners to deliver advanced tax planning strategies for private companies, entrepreneurs, and high-net-worth individuals.
The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, a passion for mentorship, and a consultative approach to client service.

Key Responsibilities
Client Advisory & Planning

  • Provide expert tax advice and planning to clients across industries, addressing corporate, trust, and personal taxation needs.
  • Research and develop complex tax strategies including reorganizations, estate, and succession planning.
  • Manage client relationships by offering proactive insights and ensuring clear communication throughout engagements.
  • Collaborate with internal service teams to deliver an integrated advisory experience.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance client outcomes and support long-term financial success.

Tax Compliance & Technical Leadership

  • Oversee the preparation and review of complex tax returns for individuals, corporations, and trusts.
  • Review and interpret technical findings to ensure compliance with current CRA standards and tax laws.
  • Maintain high-quality control standards, ensuring accuracy and integrity of deliverables.
  • Stay current with tax legislation and emerging industry trends, providing guidance and training to staff.
  • Coordinate and review special tax projects as needed.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and mentor a team of seven tax professionals, providing training, feedback, and career development.
  • Supervise workflow, resource allocation, and project timelines across multiple engagements.
  • Foster a collaborative, growth-oriented environment that prioritizes professional excellence.
  • Conduct performance reviews and coaching sessions to build a strong, capable team.

Practice Management & Growth

  • Support firm-wide initiatives to enhance efficiency, innovation, and client experience.
  • Contribute to business development through networking, cross-selling, and client expansion initiatives.
  • Represent the firm in professional settings, reinforcing NVS’s brand as a trusted advisory partner.
  • Play an active role in strategic leadership discussions to support the firm’s growth objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • CPA designation in good standing (required)
  • Completion of the CPA In-Depth Tax Program (mandatory for senior-level tax planning)
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in public accounting with a strong focus on Canadian taxation
  • Experience in private company income tax, corporate reorganizations, and strategic tax planning
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing a tax team within a CPA firm
  • Proficiency in CaseWare, CaseView, and Taxprep
  • Proven ability to develop, supervise, and mentor junior staff

Ideal Background

  • Experience at Big 4, mid-sized, or boutique CPA firms with exposure to complex client structures
  • Strong track record in advisory and compliance for privately held corporations
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with business owners and executives
