About the Role
McGovern Hurley LLP is seeking an experienced Senior Manager, Tax to join its growing Tax Advisory Group. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing client engagements, delivering strategic tax advice, and managing a team of professionals working across both private and public entities.

Key Responsibilities
Client Advisory & Tax Planning

  • Lead complex tax engagements for clients across multiple industries, providing high-quality planning and compliance services.
  • Develop and implement tax strategies for reorganizations, transactions, and indirect tax matters.
  • Advise on tax implications for private corporations, public entities, and cross-border considerations.
  • Conduct and present in-depth tax research, prepare technical memoranda, and communicate findings clearly to clients and partners.
  • Collaborate with firm partners to identify planning opportunities and enhance client outcomes.

Engagement & Practice Management

  • Manage a portfolio of clients while ensuring all deliverables are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Plan and organize team assignments, delegate work effectively, and review deliverables for accuracy and completeness.
  • Oversee compliance processes for corporate and individual filings while ensuring adherence to CRA requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, workflow, and quality within the tax group. 

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Supervise and mentor a team of 12 professionals, providing coaching, technical guidance, and feedback.
  • Promote skill development and foster a culture of continuous learning and accountability.
  • Support staff career growth through proactive performance management and knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to recruitment, onboarding, and professional development initiatives.

Firm Development & Growth

  • Collaborate with partners on business development and client expansion initiatives.
  • Represent the firm externally, building relationships within the business community and tax profession.
  • Participate in marketing, networking, and professional events to increase firm visibility and growth.

Minimum Qualifications

  • CPA designation in good standing (required)
  • Completion of the CPA In-Depth Tax Program or Master of Taxation (MTax) (required)
  • 8+ years of post-qualification experience in public accounting, with emphasis on tax planning and compliance
  • Experience with private corporations, publicly listed entities, and indirect tax matters
  • Strong technical knowledge in corporate reorganizations, transactions, and compliance
  • Exceptional project management, analytical, and communication skills

Ideal Background

  • Previous experience in Big 4 or mid-tier CPA firms (e.g., BDO, MNP, RSM, Grant Thornton, Crowe Soberman, Baker Tilly)
  • Exposure to specialized tax boutiques such as Cadesky, TaxChambers LLP, or Farber Tax
  • Strong interest in partner-track career progression and leadership development
