The Role
We’re supporting Baker Tilly in hiring a Senior Manager for their Cross Border Tax team in Toronto. This role is built for a designated CPA with deep Canada–US tax experience who can lead complex tax engagements, manage client relationships, mentor staff, and contribute to firm growth.
You’ll work closely with Partners and senior leadership on high-impact cross border tax planning, compliance, advisory work, and succession planning. The firm offers strong growth opportunities, a flexible hybrid schedule, and a supportive mid-sized culture.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage and coordinate US and Canadian tax planning and compliance for individuals with cross border filing requirements
• Oversee business tax compliance, tax provisions, and advisory engagements
• Review assessments and correspond with CRA, IRS, and state authorities
• Build and manage client relationships, delivering clear and high-quality tax advice
• Mentor and coach staff members and support their technical development
• Identify opportunities for added value, cross-selling, and enhanced client service
• Manage engagement performance including budgeting, billing, and collections
• Support firm-wide tax initiatives and knowledge development
What You Bring
• CPA designation (US or Canadian)
• Minimum five years of cross border tax experience in a Canadian public practice
• Strong understanding of the Canada–US Tax Treaty
• Completion or active pursuit of the In-Depth Tax Program or Masters of Tax
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and a demanding workload
• Experience coaching and leading a team
• Proficiency with CaseWare, TaxPrep, CCH IntelliConnect, TaxFind, and Microsoft Office
Ideal Background
• Big 4 experience (EY, KPMG, PwC, Deloitte)
• Mid-sized firms (Grant Thornton, MNP, BDO, etc.)
• Strong exposure to cross border HNW individuals, estate tax, corporate planning, and complex compliance
